研究室の新PC

　今日は、研究室に新しいPCを据え付けました。
　すでに月曜日に届いていたのですが、今週前半はいろいろと忙しなく、やれ接続だセットアップだ、ということが出来ずにいました。
　これまで研究室で使っていたPCはそろそろ６年前のもので、実用にはさしたる不便はないものの、大きな画像ファイルを扱ったりするのにはそろそろストレスを感じ始めていました。
　また、このように公共の場所に置いて複数の人間が使うPCというのは、それぞれの人の使い方が違うのでファイルの置き場所やアプリケーションの使い方などがどうしても雑然としてしまい、PCにはついつい余計な負担がかかってしまうものです。普通に考えればおよそ大したことのない作業においても、ハードディスクがカリカリ鳴っているだけで一向に処理が進行しない、といった状況がたびたび起きていました。
　と言うわけで、余っていた予算を使って、以前からお世話になっている秋葉原のパソコンショップにBTOをお願いし、このたび届いたのがこれです。



　これまでのPCはWindows XP、メモリ512MB、ハードディスク80MB
　　　　　　↓
　今回は一気に、Windows7 / 64bit、メモリ8GB、ハードディスク1TB（データ保存用1TBをもう一台内蔵増設）

と、3階級か4階級特進となりました。ちなみにCPUは、私が個人的に気に入っているAMDのものです（私は個人用のPCもAMDのものを使っています）。



　これだけのシステムで10万円しないのですから、PCの技術やグレードの進歩というものは、本当に素人の想像を絶するものだといつも思います。

　これまでのPCは、ケーブル類を全部はぎ取ってお役ご免・・・

・・・　お疲れ様でした。

　来週研究室に来た大学院生たちもびっくりするでしょう。
　で、新しいPCがきたのを機会に、彼らを動員して最近散らかり気味の研究室を掃除し、PCともどもちょっと気分を入れ替えたいと思います。

　その前にOfficeやらなにやら、ソフトのインストールをしなければ・・・　まだ半日かかりそうだ。
